_____. (1969).  Validation Report. Economic Analysis Course.

A multimedia course in economic analysis was developed and used in conjunction with the United States Naval Academy. (See ED 043 790 and ED 043 791 for the final reports of the project evaluation and development project.) This report describes the prevalidation trials, the materials validation, and the validation of the operational instructional system. EM 010 787 through EM 010 823 are related documents.

Valverde, Horace H. (1968).  Maintenance Training Media: An Annotated Bibliography.

The training analyst must be able to specify training media requirements during the early stages of weapon systems development. Also, training specialists frequently need to make training media selections for center or base level courses. This report provides such personnel with information to assist them in the development of training equipment requirements. The selected annotated bibliography contains 200 references to government sponsored training media research and development reports from 1950 to 1966. All of these reports are available through the Defense Documentation Center (DDC) to military agencies and their registered contractors. Each reference bears a DDC Accession Document (AD) number. Research and development reports on various technical aspects of training media (except operator training) of a general nature are included. The report describes, classifies, and graphically presents representative training media. The bibliography contains references to (1) training media requirements, (2) training aids, including graphics, motion pictures, television, and general training aids, (3) trainers, and (4) teaching machines.

VAN

Van Derveer, Elizabeth T. (1968).  Pilot Program Studying Use of Electronic Equipment in the Stenography Classroom.

Students in stenography classes show marked differences in learning, and a teacher of stenography must devote the majority of class time to dictation which may render him unable to provide the individual instruction needed to meet the individual needs of his students. The major purpose of this study was to investigate the extent to which electronic equipment can assist in the instruction of stenography, and to discover the problem arising from the use of such equipment on the part of the teacher and the student. Objectives were: (1) to provide an opportunity for teachers to become familiar with the use of electronic equipment, (2) to determine teacher reaction, student reaction, and desirable facilities, (3) to determine what variations in teaching method and techniques evolve, (4) to determine the extent to which electronic equipment may be employed to provide individual instruction, and (5) to suggest possible research in the use of electronic equipment in the stenography classroom. Over 200 shorthand teachers and department chairmen from approximately 175 schools had personal opportunity to consider the use of multi-channel equipment in stenography classroom, plus hands-on experience with the equipment. Findings for the objectives and some results of follow-up surveys are given.

Voi

Voigt, Melvin J. (1969).  Case Study of the California Experience in Library Collection Building.

A variety of examples of collection development in a university system is provided by this case study. The University of California's nine campuses provide a wide variety of library acquisition experience. A retrospective view of their development reflects the changing pace and pattern of library collection building over the years. The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) development is interesting because the collection had immediate pressures of advanced graduate programs and UCSD had to use a variety of devices to meet specialized needs as they arose, while, at the same time, attempting to develop well-rounded basic collections for both undergraduates and graduate students. Development of each of the nine university libraries is traced using the following headings: (1) introduction, (2) the large campuses, (3) specialized institutional collections, (4) towards research--variations in patterns, (5) the problem of distribution and uniqueness, and (6) the UCSD experience.
